Chef Sapna was born in Kerala and raised in Goa. Her passion for food was piqued when she relocated to San Francisco from India, where the dearth of restaurants in their vicinity and missing her mother's cooking necessitated her to start cooking at home.
Over time, Chef Sapna's culinary skills have evolved from scorching food on the grill to becoming a culinary instructor with a published cookbook. Her culinary world expanded upon arriving in Malaysia in 1999, where she began discovering the diverse food culture.
Her love for food led her to enroll in Le Cordon Bleu Bangkok’s Intensive Pastry Programme, where she gained newfound knowledge of western pastries and continues to enlivened time-tested flavors of her Kerala heritage.
She has since shared her daily culinary exploits on her Facebook page, taught cooking classes with @19 Culinary Studio, and hosted Fast Indian Cooking With Sapna on the Asian Food Channel.
Chef Sapna's passion centers around spices - their cultural aspects & disseminating knowledge; working with the Spice Board of India and is developing a line of premium spices with HexaFood, sourcing directly from farmers in India to help support a school of 120 children in Calcutta.
Her first cookbook, New Indian Kitchen, published in 2014, is part of the MPH Masterclass Kitchen series. Chef Sapna currently serves as an external chef instructor at Le Cordon Bleu, Malaysia.
